 E-business concept and components

E-business concept

The term e-business is a modern term that did not appear until a decade and a half ago, and it appeared for the first time in 1997 when IBM used it during the launch of its first campaign based on this term as part of its intense effort to distinguish e-business activities from e-commerce activities

Here are several definitions of the concept of e-business, several definitions, including the following

IBM defined e-business as a flexible and integrated approach to provide the organization with distinctive value, applied to the systems and operations of the enterprise with the simplicity and flexibility provided by Internet technology

Professor Kotler defines e-business as an enterprise's use of technologies, software, networks, the Internet, the extranet, and the intranet to manage and organize the organization's business

Professor Khader Mesbah Al-Titi defines it as a direct link between commercial systems with customers, vendors, or providers through the Internet, intranet or extranet. Electronic business is concerned with using electronic information to improve commercial performance and create value for the institution by forming a strong relationship between the business and its customers

Professor Saad Ghalib Yassin and Bashir Abbas Al-Alaq define e-business as the use of Internet and network business technologies to develop existing business activities, or to create new virtual business activities

Strouss and Forst believes that e-business is nothing but supply chain management, customer relationship management, enterprise resource planning in addition to e-commerce, as it is a comprehensive framework for all previous work

Hence, the summary of e-business in an equation form is

E-Business (EB) = E-Commerce (EC) + Customer Relationship Management (CRM) + Supply Chain Management (SCM) + Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) + Human Resource Management and Planning (HRMP)

E-business is a new business concept according to an integrated approach that describes the aspects of this business and the methods of its performance by relying on the resources of the enterprise information system, Internet technology and other networks in order to develop the business and administrative activities of the institution, within the framework of the corporation's mutual relations with suppliers, customers and other parties on the one hand, and integration The basic functions and relations between employees within the organization on the other hand

Electronic business components

The electronic business did not appear out of nothing, as it was preceded by technical developments that had a fundamental impact on the direction of business enterprises towards entering the world of electronic business, and we will not exaggerate if we said that this development would not have happened unless the appearance and development of communication technologies and networks, especially the Internet. These networks have formed a network structure for e-business that cannot be dispensed with to create an interactive and automatic information environment for the organization’s internal and external applications, and thus it is a basic base for building the future of e-business for enterprises

The Internet

There is no doubt that e-business before the Internet was in a slow-linear stage of development, but it jumped thanks to the use of the Internet, which is the most important technological phenomenon that accompanied the birth of the twenty-first century. Information and communication technology to achieve steady growth and significant gains

The intranet

The Internet, with its high technologies and great potentials, has enabled the establishment of an internal network for the organization known as the intranet, which is “a local information network for a particular organization, which uses the protocols and rules upon which the Internet is built”. The intranet is designed to meet the employees' needs for internal information and the exchange of data and information about the operations and activities of the organization. It is also implemented at the institution’s headquarters or in its strategic branches and business units. Persons who are not working in the organization cannot access the network’s website

The Extranet

The idea of the extranet appeared as a result of the criticisms leveled by some of the intranet system, which was described as being independent and far from external parties. Interested in reviewing the institution’s data and information

There are several types of extranets, depending on the business sector, as they are classified into three main types, as follows

Supply Extranet Network

These networks connect the main commodity warehouses with the subsidiary warehouses in order to manage the work in real time to maintain constant levels of the stock of goods in the warehouse, thus reducing the possibility of rejection of orders due to a deficit in the warehouse in addition to many other services related to inventory control;

Distribution extranet networks

These networks grant powers to dealers based on the volume of their transactions, and provide them with an online ordering service and automatic settlement of accounts with the permanent supply of new product lists, technical specifications, and other services

Competitive Extranet Networks

These networks enhance competitiveness in economic sectors, as they give large and medium and small enterprises equal opportunities in the field of buying and selling by linking small and large enterprises to transfer prices and technical specifications between them, which raises the level of service in that sector and enhances the quality of products and eliminates monopoly
